Hello and thank you for stopping by Dee Musical Instruments, my name is Jim, I design, build and play guitars.
I’m trained as a cabinetmaker / pattern maker / machinist / millwright and for almost 35 years I’ve been in the Toronto millwork and custom fabrication business. In that time I’ve built and finished almost anything you can imagine out of wood, from antique reproductions to original furniture designs, literally 1000’s of chairs, tables, cabinets, retail commercial and institutional fixtures, doors and windows, mantles and staircases, a number of mahogany boats, and the list goes on...
My work has not only involved wood, but also ornamental and structural metal work, electronics/mechanics/ PLC’s, glass, acrylic and work with all sorts of composites. I’ve designed and built machines used in the woodworking, metalworking, luthiery and glass cutting industries. For almost 15 years I’ve been programming high-end cnc machining centres and using them to fabricate just about anything you can think of.
My interest in music goes back to my earliest days growing up in the 60’s, my mother with the non-stop radio and my father who, while not at his day job, was a bandleader and musician, a drummer. My interest in building instruments goes back some 20 years when a friend came by my shop to use the band saw to cut out a P bass body.
Since that day I’ve been building and selling guitar parts and guitars. I’ve sold guitars, necks, bodies, templates, jigs, tools and 1000’s of hardware kits to customers all over the world via ebay and now I’m ready for something new.
Dee Musical Instruments is a joint effort, along with my son Darren (a drummer and guitarist who’s been working with me for some time now) and a small staff, we plan to introduce a line of original design guitars known as our “Signature” series. I’ll be moving all my ebay sales to this site so we’ll also be selling guitar parts, hardware kits and doing custom fabrication and finishing for other luthiers and direct to customers.
